As part of the election of the rector, the University of Ljubljana (UL) prepared 6 public presentations, where all 4 candidates for the rector of UL presented themselves. Public presentations took place in the chamber hall at the Rectorate of the University of Ljubljana, where, in addition to the candidates for the rector position, the moderators of the events were also present. Due to the epidemiological situation, all other participants in the public presentations attended the presentations online via the Zoom Meeting and the YouTube portal livestream. The Multimedia Laboratory of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (LMMFE) also participated in the implementation of the event, they provided comprehensive multimedia support with help from the students of the Multimedia study programs.

Multimedia support was provided at each event by a 7-member team under the mentorship of assistant Klemen Pečnik, that took care of the live broadcast on YouTube in high definition and at the Zoom meeting in an interactive form. The transmission used 6 cameras (5 of which were remotely controlled PTZ cameras), slides of candidates’ presentations, Zoom meeting feedback channel for the possibility of audiovisual asking of questions, 7 microphones, pre-prepared recordings and other sources. Among other things, the LMMFE team also took care of the preparation of the introductory and closing credits and the preparation of the name tags and titles for the participants.

The laboratory also developed, a program for time analysis of candidates’ responses, which helped the event organizers to ensure a time – balanced discussion. It was also one of the key audio-video sources for a separate live broadcast to the chamber hall for the candidates. The team also took care of the technical moderation of conference calls, additional lighting of the hall, comprehensive technical support and final control of audio-video content at all events. The team established the redundancy of the systems used, thus ensuring higher reliability of the system as a whole. This kind of event requires a lot of engineering knowledge, which students acquire at both levels of interdisciplinary study of Multimedia.

In all of the above-mentioned tasks, LMMFE also cooperated with the University Informatics Service of the University of Ljubljana and the Public Relations Department of the University of Ljubljana. Footage of all events is also available for viewing on the YouTube channel of the University of Ljubljana.
